Insight-oriented. Somatic. Empathetic.
Hi. I'm Kia.
Life can be overwhelming, leaving you feeling anxious and disconnected from yourself and those around you. If you find yourself struggling with difficult emotions, know that seeking support from a therapist is an empowering choice. Therapy offers a safe space to let the pain and frustration out.
With warmth and empathy, I aim to create a safe and supportive environment for your journey.
I invite you to browse my website and schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. This initial conversation offers us a chance to connect, understand your needs, and explore how we can collaborate to support your well-being.
About Me
I am a counselor, an artist and art teacher, a mom, a wife, a grandma, a tea drinker, and a cat lover.
I have lived in North Carolina almost my whole life. I grew up in Raleigh, then went to East Carolina University and settled nearby and have stayed rooted in the community of Eastern NC since.
Before going back to school in my fifties and beginning my therapeutic practice, I was a stay at home mom.
As my kids got older and began finding their own paths, I started to search for a purpose that aligned with my skillset and passion.
I returned to ECU to get my Master's Degree, which was awarded in 2022.
As a therapist, my work is somatic practices that bring attention to the body, allowing you to explore and release tension, regulate your nervous system, and connect with present-moment sensations. I bring intentional warmth and empathy to each connection, and an openness to learn about you and the ever-changing world we live in.

My Theraputic Practice
If you are interested in knowing more about my therapeutic approach, the foundation of my practice is rooted in the Polyvagal Theory and connection. As Deb Dana writes in Anchored: How to Befriend Your Nervous System Using Polyvagal Theory, “Our stories about who we are and how we see the world begin in our bodies. Before the brain can assemble thoughts and language, the nervous system initiates a response that moves us towards an experience and into connection, takes us into the mobilizing protection of fight and flight, or rescues us through shutdown and disconnection.”
As we become friends with our nervous system, keep track of our states, and anchor in autonomic safety, the challenges we naturally encounter in our daily lives don't seem as daunting. With a regulated system as our foundation, choices become apparent, and opportunities arise.
It’s in this place of safety that we can begin to peel back the layers of our stories and find important threads in your life and gently uncover hidden things that affect how you think and feel, like patterns, beliefs, and emotions.
My first goal as a therapist, is to help to facilitate that place of safety. Beyond that, there are limitless possibilities of hope and healing.
